  • Google Assistant becomes available on more Android phones

As detailed this past weekend at MWC, Google is launching Google Assistant for all phones running Marshmallow and higher (Nougat). Users of US will be the first to receive the update, with Google Assistant set to roll out right this week for United States smartphones. While Allo offers unique features like Google Assistant, it isn't distributed very well and has to compete with three other Google messaging apps.

The update to Allo is rolling out to Android users starting today and should be coming to iOS users "soon".

Also, the app is supported by a group of carriers and Google itself too through which you can send multimedia messages, read receipts and variety of emoticons too!

Apart from renaming the default messaging app, Google also announced to take carriers on board for the adoption of Universal Profiles for RCS. Once you've chosen an emoji, dragging it up and down animates it.

In a video posted to YouTube, Google says the rollout of Assistant begins today, first going out to English users in the U.S., followed by English users in Australia.

The new button is meant for bringing the Google Assistant into chats with other people, where it's able to do a number of different things, including looking up sports scores, finding nearby restaurants, pulling up maps, and just generally accessing information that Google is already really good at highlighting. Scroll all the way to the left and search for GIFs using keywords.

Google Assistant is now being rolled out for devices powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Several android manufacturers including LG, Motorola, Sony, HTC, ZTE, Micromax, Nokia, Archos, BQ, Cherry Mobile, Condor, Fly, General Mobile, Lanix, LeEco, Lava, Kyocera, MyPhone, QMobile, Symphony and Wiko, along with Pixel and Android One devices have agreed to its usage and name update.

Google's shown Allo a lot of love, recently. And in December, it coincided the launch of animated Star Wars stickers with the release of Disney's Rogue One.
