Anna Nordqvist shoots 11-under 61, takes Founders Cup lead

20 March, 2017, 11:27 | Author: Nadine Todd

Stacy Lewis, South Korea's Chun In-gee and Thai Ariya Jutanugarn finished in a three-way tie for second on 23-under, with three more South Koreans - Park In-bee, Jang Ha-na and Ryu So-yeon - two shots further back.

Nordqvist finished at 25-under 263, two strokes off the LPGA Tour record that Sei Young Kim matched a year ago at Desert Ridge. The Swede had a tournament-record 61 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead into the final round.

Playing partner Ariya Jutanugarn, In Gee Chun, Katie Burnett and Sandra Changkija joined Lewis atop the leaderboard at Desert Ridge.

It was Nordqvist's seventh LPGA title and came in the part of America she says she considers home after attending nearby Arizona State University as an amateur. "They feel like family, my US family", the 6-foot Nordqvist said.

Lewis is winless in 67 events since June 2014.

The world number one has carded a final round four under par 68 to finish in a share of eighth at 20 under par at the latest tournament in Phoenix.

Leishman set up his victory at the first Arnold Palmer Invitational since the legendary golfer's death in September when he grabbed the outright lead by holing a 51-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th before making par saves on the last two holes.

"I just gotta focus on my game tomorrow and hopefully have another low one".

"I feel like I enjoyed it a little bit more today than I did that time", Nordqvist said.

"I think I could only have dreamed of winning on what feels like for me home soil", said Nordqvist, adding that she chose to play the event after learning a tournament in Australia would not count towards her bid to make Europe's Solheim Cup team.

"Even though I live in Florida now, this definitely feels like home". She won at Desert Ridge in 2013 to reach No. 1, was second in 2014 and 2015 and tied for fourth past year. Playing without a driver, the long-hitter is bogey-free after two days. She won five LPGA Tour titles last year and topped the player of the year points race and money list. "A little interesting at the end, but I'm so happy and proud of myself this week".
