Almost one year later, the film is out and capturing the hearts of audiences of all ages.

In the film, the attractive Belle is imprisoned in an enchanted castle by a fearsome Beast, who soon falls in love with her.

She takes his place as the Beast's prisoner and resigns herself to a life of confinement under his control.

User Rating: Be the first one! Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast's disgusting exterior and realise the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

The PG movie broke all sorts of box office records on its first three days, with an impressive $18.4m in the USA alone, including the biggest opening weekend for a movie suggesting some parental guidance.

Beauty and the Beast, Disney's latest live action adaptation of a cartoon classic, earned US$170 million during its debut this weekend, setting a new record for a March opening.

However, that skepticism was quickly brushed aside, and exceeded my expectations.

Beauty and the Beast was scripted by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos with music by Disney veterans Alan Menken and Tim Rice.

There might be a backlash surrounding Beauty and the Beast's "gay content", but the film's lead princess Emma Watson refuses to let others rain on her parade because she fulfilled her childhood dream to play the role. I can honestly tell you that I never wanted it to end.

If you've seen the 1991 animated film Beauty and the Beast, you'll know the basic storyline and the timeless music that ties it all together. The new songs that we are treated to manage to fit in beautifully with the already beloved soundtrack such as the opening song "Aria" performed by the wonderful Audra McDonald before the curse takes place, "Days in the Sun" which tells us about Beast's parents, and "Evermore" a handsome ballad sung by Beast as he laments over letting Belle go. Sung by Watson, the song narrates a new scene in which Belle learns of her childhood and what happened to her mother. And yet, there seems to be room for everyone so far, with these hit films driving interest in theatrical moviegoing that has benefitted just about every wide release this month. It was a joy for me to finally get to do it on the big screen in such a wonderful vehicle as Beauty and the Beast, playing this character with those songs.

If you're expecting something wildly different from the animated movie, you will probably be disappointed.

The live-action version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" smashed box office records in its opening weekend.
