This weekend, Disney fans of all ages flooded the theater to the tune of a new, March box office record for the new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

The Beauty And The Beast remake follows other Disney live action re-boots like The Jungle Book, which made close to $1 billion (around £807 million) previous year.

In addition to Ms. Watson, Mr. Stevens, Ms. Thompson, Mr. Kline, Ms. McDonald, Mr. McGregor, and Mr. McKellen, the movie also stars Josh Gad and Stanley Tucci.

Additionally, following in the footsteps of Frozen, the hope is that the Beauty and the Beast's classic songs will help drive repeat business, the way tunes such as Let It Go did for the computer-animated musical in late 2013.

It follows Alice in Wonderland, which grossed US$1 billion worldwide, Cinderella with US$543.5 million, and last year's The Jungle Book, which racked up US$966.6 million, Variety.com reports. If you think that this remake is just the same as the animated movie, you are sorely mistaken and quite possibly missing out on the best Disney movie ever made.

According to the box office numbers coming in now on Sunday afternoon, Beauty and the Beast opened to an incredible $170 million in North America, taken in from 4,210 theaters across the box office!

The film, directed by Oscar victor Bill Condon and based on the 1991 animated film, cost $160 million to make.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast premiered in Cinemas in Pakistan on the 18th of March, last Friday.

U.S. evangelicals from One Million Moms and American Family Association had launched a very public boycott of the Disney film over the news that a minor character is gay. "But you don't get to $170 million because of nostalgia", Hollis added.

Also, the Disney reboot gets on the top ten list of best openings encountered by a film.

Logan at 3 is now the highest grossing Wolverine movie is the United States and with $184 million in total grosses could catch the lowest X-Men movies. It's also the seventh largest opening weekend ever, ahead of the $169.1 million opening for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 and just behind Iron Man 3's $174.1 million opening from May of 2013.

The fairy tale romance earned $US44.8 million in China, grossed $US22.8 million in the United Kingdom, grabbed $US11.9 million in South Korea, nabbed $US10.7 million in Germany, and picked up $US7.6 million in Italy.
