Cops Think Teacher Kidnapped His 15-Year-Old Student

20 March, 2017, 11:12 | Author: Mae Harvey

Jason Whatley, an attorney for the girl's father, Anthony Thomas, said the teen's abduction came after a chain of events that began January 23, when a Culleoka high school student allegedly saw Elizabeth and Cummins kissing in a classroom. He didn't just steal from me, he stole from the whole community. Another family member added, "Bring her back to us or allow her to call and let us know she is ok".

Thomas' sister broke down while talking to those gathered. They say they suspended Cummins on February 6 for insubordination.

"I want you to come home because we all love you".

The nationwide search for Thomas and Cummins has now entered its seventh day. Cummins faces charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual contact with a minor, but authorities say his penalty will be less severe if he turns himself in with the girl.

The former health teacher at the Culleoka Unit School allegedly met Thomas through the local chapter of HOSA, an worldwide student organisation that promotes career opportunities in the health care industry. Around the same time, Cummins was recorded by a surveillance camera getting gas at a nearby service station, authorities said.

Thomas was last seen being dropped off at the same Shoney's eatery by her friend at 8am.

The Daily Herald in Columbia reported that school spokeswoman Kim Doddridge provided a timeline of the school's handling of the incident.

Authorities in Tennessee and Alabama are pleading for the public to help find Thomas and Cummins, and the 2012 silver Nissan Rogue they're believed to be traveling in.

Saturday's Amber Alert update said the investigation has indicated a "troubling pattern of behavior" by Cummins, who possibly planned Monday's abduction.

Cummins may have abused his role as a teacher "to groom this vulnerable young girl for some time in an effort to lure and potentially sexually exploit her", DeVine said.

Authorities have not released much information about the relationship between Elizabeth Thomas and Tad Cummins, but they are clearly concerned that the older man took advantage of his student.

As stated in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's third Amber Alert update."Nothing investigators have learned about Cummins or his intentions for the young girl since issuing the AMBER Alert calms the imminent concern for Elizabeth's well-being".

Elizabeth Thomas was last seen a week ago tomorrow in Columbia, Tennessee. Cummins took out a $4,500 loan a few days before he disappeared, police say.

Elizabeth is described as a 5ft 5in, white, with hazel eyes and weighing 120lbs.

"Thomas is believed to be in the custody of 50-year-old Tad Cummins, a white male who stands 6'0" and weighs approximately 200 pounds, and has brown hair and eyes.

The license plate number for Cummins' auto is 976ZPT, but law enforcement officials believe the vehicle may have been abandoned at this point.

In recent weeks, an Instagram account under Cummins' name posted several quotes about love.
