"Flex is the only service available from a major cloud vendor with simplified pricing for clients whose data usage patterns are hard to predict", the company said in a news release.

Given the ability for the OpenStack platform to operate as a means for bringing in different parts of the cloud infrastructure stack from different vendors together, it is arguably a solid software platform for businesses looking to adopt the cloud under the missive of digital transformation doctrines without getting locked into one vendor and facilitate the deployment of a hybrid mix of public and private cloud services and on-premise servers.

"Companies are rapidly choosing to blend their existing infrastructure within multiple cloud environments, creating a hybrid cloud framework that continues to provide them with the speed and control they require to optimize their enterprise", said Arvind Krishna, Senior Vice President, Hybrid Cloud and Director of IBM Research. IBM Cloud Integration is created to allow clients to access and use actionable business data from sources including cloud services, messaging platforms or, application software regardless of the environment in which they reside using easy to discover APIs. This will give Red Hat customers the option of moving eligible, unused Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions from their data center to IBM's cloud. This new announcement sees Veritas certify the IBM Cloud Object Storage family of software and cloud services for use with the forthcoming Veritas NetBackup 8.0. IBM is positioning both enterprise and startup clients for success with a complete portfolio of cloud services and marquee partnerships, supporting a wide range of applications including: big data, analytics, blockchain and cognitive computing. In turn, IBM has certified NetBackup 8.0 to run on the IBM Cloud, to offer clients additional data protection for cloud-based workloads. This close working relationship has fostered joint learning, allowing IBM and Veritas to improve clients' cloud migration capabilities. NetBackup 8.0 has an anticipated availability of 2Q17 and will be available for order from the IBM Bluemix Catalog of services, providing mutual IBM and Veritas clients flexible, consumption-based pricing and customizable configurations. The new tools can "simplify the time-consuming tasks of selection, mapping and data integration, allowing developers to use IBM services or combine them with their own data", the company said in the release. As part of the agreement, NetApp will offer backup and archival solutions that integrate with IBM Cloud Object Storage.
