Intel documents show no evidence of spying on Trump Tower, lawmakers say

  • Roger Stone a former adviser for President Trump may be investigated by the Senate intelligence committee

He said the House Intelligence Committee also is investigating the leaking of the name of ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who was caught on a wiretap talking to Russia's ambassador before the election. On March 28, former spy chiefs and administration officials will also appear before the panel to give their take on what, if anything, transpired between Trump's team and Russian officials during the heat of the presidential campaign.

Making reference to a colleague's claim that the legislative branch needs to "get to the bottom" of Trump's allegations, Schiff said: 'We are at the bottom of this'.

'There was no FISA warrant that I'm aware of to tap Trump Tower, ' the California Republican stated on Fox News Sunday. "But there's a lot he can tell us about the Russian motivations for their intervention in our election, how the Russians operate in Europe, what techniques they use, what we should be on the lookout for in our investigation", he said.

However, he clarified to say that he doesn't necessarily believe the leaks are from people now within the government, but rather they're coming from disgruntled former government employees, such as people from former President Barack Obama's administration. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said on Sunday that the committee "will be taking them seriously" at its own hearing later this month.

Within the first minutes of a much-anticipated House hearing Monday, FBI Director James Comey is expected to officially undercut the wiretapping allegations that have been promoted by the White House for more than two weeks, according to sources familiar with Comey's thinking.

Around the same time, The New York Times reported that United States intelligence agents had intercepted calls showing that members of Trump's campaign had repeated contacts with top Russian intelligence officials in the year preceding the November 8 election.

The House Intelligence Committee is still waiting on answers to a request for a complete list of names of people who have been "unmasked" during surveillance operations. Will Hurd of Texas, a former clandestine agent for the Central Intelligence Agency. So I think it will be good to highlight that.

The frequency and the level of those contacts raised alarms in U.S. intelligence and law enforcement circles.

In a separate interview on "This Week", Sen. "There can only be a certain handful of people who did that". They would have to take lie-detector tests. While Trump used the term "wiretapping", he and his aides say that now refers to "surveillance" in general. He said, "I spent 9 1/2 years as an undercover officer".

But the White House is angry that statements by former senior intelligence officials in the Obama administration - and by top congressional figures - that there is no evidence to substantiate the claims of alleged collusion with Russian Federation is not getting more coverage. Same for NSA. Same for Federal Bureau of Investigation.

If true, the alleged campaign of political interference by Russia, Hurd said, would "go down in the history of Mother Russia as the greatest covert action campaign" it had ever pursued. That claim has strained relations with America's closest ally. "This is not going away until we find out whether these are coincidences or a convergence". "And it has to be thoughtful, because we are feeding into this covert-action narrative that the Russians are trying to create".
