  • Security forces fortify Capital ahead of Jat protest

CBSE has also issued an advisory for Class 10th and 12th students appearing in exam in Delhi in light of the agitation.

The Jat protesters yesterday postponed the "Delhi Kooch" following discussing the matter with the Haryana Government.

Jat reservation agitators in Haryana called off their plan to march to Delhi and besiege Parliament tomorrow after BJP chief minister M.L. Khattar promised that their demand would be met.

Now, only exits at Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan and Lok Kalyan Marg station on yellow line will be closed, but people will still be allowed to enter from here. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar addresses media on Jat agitation.

Hoping to build a consensus between the Jat community and the government, the All-India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) leader Yashpal Malik on Sunday said they had seven issues which could only be resolved through a dialogue.

"The previous UPA government had provided reservation to the Jat community but for certain reasons it could not get along in courts".

On Sunday, a superintendent of police and a DSP were injured along with seven other policemen when the Jat protesters clashed with them on being prevented from marching toward Delhi.

They gave a call for the march to besiege Parliament and to hold dharnas on the Delhi border, blocking all highways, to press for their demands for reservation.

The development came hours after Khattar urged the protestors to meet him and other ministers ahead of the agitation. Delhi could not afford this agitation at least at this time when Parliament is in session. He claimed a few protesters were also injured.

Internet services, which had been suspended in many "sensitive" districts of Haryana, were restored on Sunday evening after the Jats called off their proposed march to Delhi on Monday.

Security has been tightened as a similar agitation by the Jats had resulted in large-scale violence in Haryana in February a year ago, leaving 30 people dead and more than 300 people injured.

A Haryana ministerial panel led by senior Minister Ram Bilas Sharma had held talks with the Jats in Panipat on March 16, after which the minister had said that an agreement had been reached with the community and the deadlock could end soon.
