  • Critical witness expected to testify in Hernandez murder trial

A former friend of ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez told the jury at his double-murder trial Monday that Hernandez opened fire on a auto because he believed two men inside had taunted him at a Boston nightclub.

Alexander Bradley, an admitted drug dealer, said the two men were hanging out on July 12, 2012, the night in which Daniel Abreu, 29, and Safiro Furtado, 28 were murdered in the South End. Bradley received immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony at this trial.

Hours after - unbeknownst to Bradley or Hernandez - the lives of five Cape Verdean friends living in Dorchester collided with a temperamental football star for a brief minute in time. Bradley settled a lawsuit with Hernandez in court.

Haggan warned jurors Bradley is no choir boy.

Authorities said Hernandez fired five shots from a revolver into a auto outside a Boston nightclub club, killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

"There they go, there they go", Hernandez allegedly said to Bradley, urging him to follow. According to Bradley, Hernandez popped the hood of the SUV and retrieved the revolver he has hidden near the engine block. The civil action was settled a year ago short of trial.

In opening statements earlier this month, prosecutors positioned Bradley as the star witness, the "loose end" that reignited what had been a cold case.

After the club, Bradley feel asleep in the auto when he woke up to Hernandez point a gun to his face. Because no gunshot residue was recovered from around the driver's seat, they contend it's more likely the killer had his arm extended out the driver's window. The two friends spotted Abreu and Furtado in an SUV, and proceeded to drive up next to them.

Bradley said Hernandez later asked him to help him buy a gun "to protect himself" as a result of these perceived "trying" incidents.

He said they proceeded to drink and smoke marijuana before departing for Club Cure in Boston -- one of their favorite establishments.

Hernandez then took out the gun and told Bradley to roll his window down and lean back in his seat, Bradley said.

"He fired five shots - five rounds, and then I heard like three or four clicks coming from the gun, Bradley testified". Bradley says Hernandez took the revolver he had placed in the auto earlier in the night. The two were both "panicked" and in a "state of shock", Bradley said.

After the murders, Bradley said, Hernandez "became extremely paranoid", and "thought helicopters were following him everywhere".

Months later, in February 2013, Bradley said Hernandez bought him a one-way ticket to Florida to attend a Super Bowl party. Two additional passengers walked away without injury.

Later that night, Bradley rode home from the bar with Hernandez and other passengers, and they got into a heated argument, he testified.

Hernandez shot Bradley between the eyes and then pulled him out of the vehicle and left him to die, Bradley testified.
