Liverpool draw 'one of my happiest days' - Guardiola

Liverpool and Manchester City shared the spoils in a truly absorbing tactical encounter between Jurgen Klopp's men and Pep Guardiola's soldiers.

Replays showed there was no contact as the pair engaged in an angry clinch, but punches appeared to be thrown afterwards in the players' tunnel as both sides left the pitch.

Guardiola's cavalier approach came under scrutiny after City fell to a 3-1 defeat at Monaco last week that saw them eliminated from the Champions League on away goals after a 6-6 aggregate draw.

"Today is one of the happiest days of my life as a manager".

We've seen enough Premier League football over the years to know that football managers don't always agree on things. "I'm not happy in this moment but give me a few hours and I will be happy".

Liverpool were painstakingly reminded of what they having missing as Raheem Sterling regularly burnt James Milner for pace but then also reminded supporters that, for £49 million, his finishing and decision-making are second rate. We did all we could. It is one of the days I am most proud. Like all matches, we create more chances but this is our problem, our problem is we don't score goals.

"I love him. Under pressure, the people criticise him, so I am delighted to have John, with all the huge amount of mistakes he has".

There is a sense, though, that Liverpool have let themselves down this season and they haven't thrown down a more concerted challenge to Chelsea.

With both teams in love with going forward and scoring goals and generally not anxious about the defending part of the game, plenty of goals were expected, and while the chances to out the ball into the back of the net came, came and came some more, the players had an off day as far as finding the target was concerned. "If he can't [explain the miss] - I thought it was because he worked so hard before".

"My eyes lit up, I just thought to myself "if I get some connection on this, it" s a goal" but It just took bounce in front of me, ' explained Lallana, who has joined up with England for the games against Germany and Lithuania.

"I am a little bit disappointed at 1-0 we didn't score the chances we had".

A 1-1 draw at the Etihad means Liverpool have still not been beaten by a side occupying the Top 6 places in the Premier League table - make that Top 7 when one includes the 1-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby.
