  • North Korean leader Kim Jong-un watches the ground jet test of a high-thrust engine on screens at an undisclosed location in North Korea on Saturday

North Korea has tested a powerful new rocket engine, state media said yesterday, with leader Kim Jong-Un hailing the successful test as a "new birth" for the nation's rocket industry.

"The Korean peninsula nuclear issue in nature is an issue between the United States and the DPRK", Wang said, using the acronym for North Korea's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The "whole world will soon witness what eventful significance the great victory won today carries", Kim said, adding that the test marks what will be known as the "March 18 revolution" in the development of the country's rocket industry.

North Korea has also always been a concern for Israel, due to its nuclear relationship with Iran and its willingness to sell related military hardware to Syria as well.

Trump also said he had "meetings on North Korea", but did not specify with whom or what was discussed.

North Korea's state-run news agency reported that Pyongyang has successfully tested a "new type" of high-thrust rocket engine seen as a step closer to the realization of Kim Jong-Un's vow to launch an ICBM this year.

Last week Tillerson, who was in Seoul, said that Washington would consider military action against North Korea if it was provoked.

Malaysia's once-cosy ties with North Korea have frayed in the wake of Kim Jong Nam's assassination. And that's not an unusual outcome.

North Korea on Monday hinted at additional provocations by vowing that it will continue to take nuclear deterrent steps against the U.S.' hard-line policy toward it.

As North Korea's missile program gets more sophisticated, schoolchildren in Japan are preparing for attack.

"An ICBM variant of the Unha could be sufficiently similar to the space launch vehicle in that it would be very likely to succeed, making it a good candidate for a political demonstration even though the Unha would make for a poor missile".

The entire student body rushes to the school's gym. "If they shoot a missile, (Japanese) self defense forces will try to shoot them down". The Japanese government said three out of four missiles launched from North Korea on March 6 landed in the sea less than 200 nautical miles (around 370 kilometers) from Oga.
