Scots are exhausted of never-ending referendums

The first minister has said the timing of a second independence referendum should not be determined by what is "convenient" for Theresa May, but by what is right for the Scottish people, reports The National. I did not vote and will not be voting to separate Scotland from the rest of the UK.

There's always one politician who can inflame passions in Scotland, even if she does it from the grave.

The nationalists lost 55 percent to 45 percent in 2014, but rather than petering out, the SNP then added scores of supporters to take membership as high as one in every 35 Scottish voters. Scotland's deficit, larger than that of any EU Member State, would be a major obstacle to Sturgeon's original plan to have an independent Scotland join the EU.

We can not have a referendum when all that is known is what legal deal has been agreed.

Sturgeon's Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP), which dominates the Edinburgh-based devolved parliament, wants Scotland to either remain in the European Union or rejoin the bloc, after Britain leaves.

He added: "Well I've got news for you Prime Minister, your mask has slipped and the real face of Tory arrogance is there for all to see". "But if she is talking in the spring of 2019, a bit later perhaps than I was suggesting then there may be some room for discussion around that", she said.

And he said Project Fear - the nickname given to the Better Together campaign to keep Scotland in the United Kingdom in the run up to the 2014 independence referendum - was "back in spades".

Scottish government oil sector tax receipts amounted to just £60mn in Fiscal Year 2015/16 if oil revenues are shared on a geographical basis as the Scottish government argues they should be.

Support for Scottish independence is lower than the last referendum in 2014, according to a new poll.

Economists are once again studying the potential implications of Scotland going independent a mere three years after the previous exercise which saw a majority of Scots opt to remain in the United Kingdom.

Nicola Sturgeon has said an independent Scotland would keep the pound because it is "our currency as much as it is the currency of anywhere else".

As we head to a second independence referendum Wood points out that Scotland has historically accounted for 9-9.5% of UK GDP, "though that share has fallen recently as the Scottish economy has underperformed the wider UK".

"All our energies should be focused on our negotiations with the European Union", May said, adding that holding a Scotland referendum while EU exit talks were still under way would "make it more hard for us to get the right deal for Scotland and the right deal for the UK". Not only would another vote be bad for Scotland, but it would also be bad for the Brexit talks.

The stand-off emerged this week when Sturgeon called for a referendum between Autumn of 2018 and Spring 2019.

"Yet now we have Nicola Sturgeon causing even more confusion".

'The status quo has been overtaken by events because unless powers now with the European Union are repatriated from Brussels to the Scottish Parliament, the Welsh Assembly and the regions, Whitehall will have perpetrated one of the biggest power grabs by further centralising power. employment and energy.

Mundell said there would be no negotiations on Section 30, a procedure that allows the Scottish parliament to legislate for an independence referendum.

So an independent Scotland could find itself outside the European Union single market because of Brexit, and outside the British single market as well because of its secession from the United Kingdom.

Theresa May's dismissal of Nicola Sturgeon and the Scottish Parliament's right to hold a referendum until after Brexit negotiations have been completed has only added fuel to the fire when it comes to the contempt in which Tory governments have always been held in Scotland, due to the decimation of the country's industrial base in past years and the concomitant hardship inflicted on its working class.
