Seniors take stand against proposed health care bill

Ryan said Republican leaders still planned to bring the healthcare bill to a vote on the House of Representatives floor on Thursday.

The crowd at the rally came equipped with signs proclaiming Save ACA and Health Care is a Right not a Privilege. "This is exactly where we want to be", the Wisconsin Republican said in an interview with "Fox News Sunday".

Start with Medicaid. The Republicans' proposal gradually trims the amount sent to states that expanded the program under Obamacare and then provides a per-capita amount each year rather than a percentage of the costs.

Potential changes to the GOP health care bill may include a work requisite for Medicaid recipients.

A children's advocacy organization contends the American Health Care Act - the proposed replacement for Obamacare - would be devastating for youngsters in NY who are covered through Medicaid and the state's Children's Health Insurance Program. The new plan would turn Medicaid into block grant program and put caps on spending. However, there is no guarantee funding would keep up with future demands. "And the reason I feel so good about this is because the president has been a great closer", Ryan told host Chris Wallace Sunday morning.

Democratic House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) challenged the Republican's over their bill and called it "Robin Hood in reverse" giving money back to the wealthy and taking it from poorer Americans. The package represents the first major piece of legislation aimed at fulfilling a top 2016 campaign promise - further, Trump has said Washington must first deal with health care before officials can tackle the next policy priority of tax reform.

"They need to hear from their constituency", she said. "Well, it's a fine needle that needs to be thread", he said, "there's no doubt about it".

The healthcare bill would face significant challenges in the Senate even if it were to pass the House.

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton has emerged as the most outspoken voice against his own party's health bill.

A single person aged 21 and earning $26,500 per year is already paying $1,700 for insurance premiums under the current plan, but under the Republican bill, it could fall to $1,450.

Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press, Republican Senator Susan Collins of ME anxious the bill would harm older Americans, and shift Medicaid costs to states-something critics say a block-grant approach would only make worse. Critics say the measure would make millions of people lose their health coverage, disrupt insurance markets and still leave the government on the hook for costly entitlements. His company found that despite the AHCA calling for higher insurance costs among older adults compared with millennials, state law does not permit any differential pricing of health care premiums based on age, Wu said.
