As the No. 2 to controversial CEO Travis Kalanick, he headed the company's ride-sharing operations, marketing and customer support divisions, per CNN.

Mr Jones had left Target, where he was chief marketing officer, to join Uber in September.

The natural disaster that has hit Uber in the past few weeks has taken down another executive.

Uber President Jeff Jones is reportedly stepping down as President at Uber after just over six months in the role.

"Jeff came to the tough decision that he doesn't see his future at Uber", Kalanick wrote. Prior to Jones' departure, there were reports that Uber was looking for a COO who might provide the President with some assistance in order to steer the wayward ship back to a stable course.

After a video surfaced earlier this year, showing Kalanick arguing with an Uber driver, the CEO admitted he needed leadership help, and announced his search for a new chief operating officer.

In recent weeks, two other high profile Uber execs have departed: Ed Baker, who was vice president of product and growth, and Amit Singhal, senior vice president of engineering. In late January, Uber was hit was a social media campaign called #DeleteUber after the company was perceived as not being in sync with those protesting President Trump's first Muslim travel ban.

A former Uber employee last month published a blog post describing a workplace where sexual harassment was common and went unpunished. Uber later announced it had hired former US Attorney General Eric Holder to lead an internal investigation into the allegations and board member Ariana Huffington also was vocal about the importance of these issues being addressed.

Last month, Uber employees spoke with CNNTech about the company's culture and work-life balance - or lack thereof. The company is also being sued by Alphabet, the parent company of Google, for allegedly stealing self-driving technology.
