Wenger revealed after Saturday's defeat at West Brom an announcement on his future was due "very soon", and Arsenal have since denied approaching Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Tuchel about the job.

"It's a dictatorship and he surrounds himself with yes men", Sutton added.

Arsenal are out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the seventh year in a row and were dumped out in the most humiliating way possible, 10-2 on aggregate against Bayern.

Sutton said on BBC Radio 5 live: "The last 13 years have been a disaster and the two FA Cups have papered over the cracks".

But Giroud said the Arsenal players are united in a desire for Wenger to return for the 2017-18 season.

"I'll be surprised if he goes", Pulis told reporters after the game. "They have just accepted mediocrity", Sutton said.

Wenger is under extreme pressure at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal stare at missing out on qualifying for the Champions League for the first time during the Frenchman's reign.

With banners both against and in support of Wenger being flown over the Hawthorns, it continues to bring real embarrassment to the club as to how things are going for the Frenchman, and protests and calls for him to go are growing ever louder. The Gunners now sit in sixth place on 50 points, two spots below Champions League qualification with nine matches left in the season.

The Gunners fell to new depths at the weekend as their 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion was another damaging blow to their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League this season.
