Drake's More Life Offers Insights Into His Life

After waiting 3 years for "Views", fans were not expecting a new project this soon, but after the single "Fake Love" was released last October and the project was announced, fans have anxiously been waiting after the project was set back multiple times.

The 22-track playlist had a gamut of features from well-known artists like Kanye West, 2 Chainz and Sampha, to newcomers like Jorga Smith and Snoh Aalegra. When listening to More Life it made me think of how I create my own playlists and what songs I put next to others to create a sound that stretches for 10-12 minutes. Drake is the king of sublimal shots and clever innuendo and he does more of it on 'More Life.' Of course the romance could have all been just a ploy to get clearance for Lopez's 1999 hit. Notably, streams via Apple Music far outpaced those on Spotify.

While many view this as an album I understand why it's being called a playlist. Eight days later, the final product hit the web, and it's potentially the artist's most cohesive project to date.

With the Saturday release of his album/playlist More Life, the former Degrassi teen actor seems to have got back on the critics' good side, but scrutinising his love misadventures won't help his street credibility. By the second interlude I recognized that's what was happening.

But, then again, maybe Drake isn't.

A huge college basketball fan, Drake's nod at Kentucky head men's basketball coach John Calipari didn't go unnoticed. I really enjoyed the summer vibes, the "Take Care"/old Drake hints here in there, and the ratio between party songs and more chill ones.

According to Complex, Drake raps on the track, "All you did was write the book on garbage ass Rollies/Ego strokin', picture postin', claiming that you'd do it for motivational purposes only but you just had to show me".

"More life / More time with family and friends". You can read a complete list of the production credits here. "Better attitude, let's see where it gets me", he says on "Lose You", the album's most bushy-tailed, forward-looking rapping, though not without some residual resentment that "people like you more when you working towards something, not when you have it".
