Following the news, Brexit Secretary David Davis said the country was now on the "threshold of the most importation negotiation" for a generation.

Criticism, even of him, said Duterte, is part of living in a democracy.

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte now wants to enhance relations with the United States under the Trump White House and is prepared to "give all" to Washington except military deals.

Separately, the Philippine Foreign Affairs department said in a statement that Mr. Duterte's talks with other high-ranking Burmese officials focused on increased trade and investment, citing the growing presence of Philippine companies in Myanmar.

Speaking during a visit to Myanmar, he said same-sex marriage is a Western concept.

Duterte sought and received the support of Myanmar's president and state counselor for the Philippines' chairmanship.

Duterte's attitude towards the European Union, in contrast, has not changed. Widespread prejudice against the country's Muslim Rohingya minority has led to deadly communal violence, posing a political threat to Suu Kyi while earning worldwide opprobrium.

"I'm just interested going after the drug guys". Duterte said, referring to the European Parliament. Duterte has also been condemned for the several thousand deaths caused by the surge of extrajudicial killings in his war on drugs. The Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have also warned Duterte may be overseeing crimes against humanity, with police allegedly running anonymous death squads.

Since taking office previous year, Mr Duterte has led a campaign to eradicate illegal drugs in the Philippines, which has left more than 7,000 people dead.

'More people will die. "I will continue until the last drug lord in the Philippines is killed and the pushers (are) out of the streets", he promised. "This, before, was the favourite of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries because there's a death penalty in Indonesia, Malaysia and I'm trying to revive it", he said during his Sunday speech in Myanmar.

Duterte won election to the nation's highest office after serving as mayor of Davao City, a southern population center, for 22 years.
