Raiders offensive coordinator Todd Downing was quarterbacks coach with the Bills in 2014.

He then was benched after winning two of his first four starts the following season and made just three starts in his final two seasons with the Bills.

Manuel failed to live up to his first round status throwing for 3,500 yards, 19 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 17 starts.

Maybe signing with one of the team's farthest away from Buffalo was always in EJ Manuel's plan, but that's what he did after signing on with the Oakland on Monday to compete for a backup position behind Derek Carr.

Jenkins has been a player who is fine on your roster, but might leave you looking for something a little more. This is what we're going to do, ' and obviously the chair kind of got pulled up behind me.

"It was very surprising", Manuel said, via New York Upstate. "That's a situation you want".

"Of course, it wasn't something I was excited about or happy about, but it was what it was". Especially as a quarterback and in my situation, trying to really change the perception of whatever I've gone through in Buffalo and all that kind of stuff.

The Raiders also announced the signing of free agent linebacker Jelani Jenkins and re-signed veteran long snapper Jon Condo. He recorded 227 tackless, three forced fumbles, 3.5 tackles for loss and five passes defended during his four-year career in Miami. "I've been on teams with a lot of great tight ends and running backs. I think that helps". The 6-foot, 240-pound linebacker has dealt with his fair share of injuries through his first four seasons in the league and is coming off a year in which he played in a career-low nine regular season games.
