To recall, Gionee A1 was first introduced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 last month, along with its elder sibling A1 Plus. While Gionee did not disclose price or other details like availability, it revealed that the smartphone will become available for pre-booking from March 31.
Being the first ever A series smartphone, the key focus of the Gionee A1 is its front - selfie - camera and long battery life. It has 4GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, expandable up to 128GB via micro SD.
The Gionee A1 has been officially announced for the Indian markets today, however, the price of the phone is not unveiled.
The smartphone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and is backed up by a 4,010 mAh battery.
It bears a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display and is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) SoC. The dual-SIM enabled smartphone also has a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel.
Gionee A1 comes with a 13 Megapixel rear camera with dual tone LED Flash and Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF).
The front camera of Gionee A1 also comes with beauty settings, which can be customized according to the user's needs. Gionee has added a big 4010mAh battery to the A1 and it says that the new "ultrafast-charging" charges the batteries completely within 2 hours. The main USP of the Gionee A1 is the 16 MP selfie cam.
The Chinese maker had priced the A1 and A1 Plus at 349 euro and 499 euros respectively. The smartphone houses a pair of 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors at the rear end. For the A1, this comes to a price of around Rs 24,000, so we'll have to wait and see if Gionee sticks with this same pricing for India as well. Gionee A1 smartphone will be available in gray, black and gold color options. Dimensions of the phone are 54.5 x 76.5 x 8.5mm and it weighs 182 grams.
