"Especially Merkel", meaning German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Turkey's diplomatic relations with numerous European Union nations have been nosediving over the past months after the European countries refused to allow Turkish ministers to campaign for an upcoming referendum in their country. On March 19, he also said Germany would like to reopen Nazi gas chambers.

The row between the nations started after German authorities and other European Union nations including Switzerland and Netherlands refused some Turkish ministers to campaign for a "yes" vote in their country.

"When we call them fascists, Nazis they in Europe get uncomfortable". Erdoğan's comments were the latest escalation in a string of comments by Turkish officials drawing Nazi parallels with present-day Germany and the Netherlands in a dispute over restrictions on Turkish ministers campaigning there for an upcoming referendum that will decide whether the current parliamentary system should be replaced with an executive presidency.

The tensions between Ankara and Berlin continue to increase as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spokesperson stated that additional rallies in support of Erdoğan will be held in Germany and Turkish ministers will attend them.

"Yesterday (Saturday), Germany put its name under another scandal", presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin told CNN-Turk.

Erdogan said on Saturday that he would "approve ... without any hesitation" the reinstatement of the death penalty in Turkey if MPs did "the necessary thing" in voting for it. Schulz also said he supports the ban on Turkish ministers who want to carry out referendum campaigns.

"Allowing a terror organization to protest and chant slogans about a referendum in our country while creating difficulties for parliamentarians to meet with the Turkish community constitutes a serious double standard", the foreign ministry said in a statement.

He had said on Friday that Turkish families living in Europe should have "not just three but five children" each, in order to "stake a claim".

The vote is created to change the Turkish constitution to give Erdogan sweeping powers.

Turkey has repeatedly accused Germany of supporting the PKK, which has tens of thousands of followers across Europe.

German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said he anxious that the conflict would spill over to ties between German citizens and those of Turkish descent. He said the German ambassador had been summoned although this was not confirmed by Berlin.
