  • Bill Gates Warren Buffett and Jeff Bezos top the Forbes Billionaires list

That's because the new Forbes ranking of the world's billionaires says that Trump lost an estimated $200 million of his wealth last year alone and a full billion dollars over the past two years.

The global billionaire population jumped 13% from last year to 2,043, the biggest annual increase in the 31 years since the magazine began compiling the list, Forbes said.

Forbes noted Trump is tied with five other people on this year's billionaires list.

233 billionaires were welcomed to the list this year and for the first time ever Forbes counted over 2,000 people with fortunes to fit the very big bill.

The total combined net worth of this year's billionaires was $7.67 trillion, up from $6.48 trillion last year.

While Trump's actual net worth is unknown due to his notorious refusal to reveal his tax returns, but has claimed it's "in excess" of $10 billion.

Also on the list is veteran banker Wee Cho Yaw, who has a net worth of US$5 billion, as well as Hong Leong Group chairman Kwek Leng Beng, with a net worth of US$2.7 billion.

The richest man in Asia is Dalian Wanda's Wang Jianlin, ranked 18th with a net worth of US$31.3 billion.

With the continuous growth of DoubleDragon Properties, Edgar Sia became the youngest Filipino to be included in this year's list, landing at the 1940 place with a net worth of $1 billion. Forbes ranks Trump as the world's 544th richest person, after coming in at No. 324 previous year. The president landed at No. 544 on the list, slipping 220 spots from 2016, which the mag attributes to a massive decline in NYC's real estate market.

The US had the most billionaires with 565, while China was second with 319, and Germany was in the third spot with 114. He's followed by his good friend and investment guru Warren Buffett (US$75.6b), and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (US$72.8b).

Amancio Ortega, the Spanish business tycoon best known for owning the Zara fashion label, came in fourth, making him the highest ranking non-American with an estimated fortunate of $71.3bn. Gayle Cook had previously made regular appearances on Forbes' lists until she transferred her wealth to her son.

The world's richest woman is Liliane Bettencourt.

Mr Gates' fortune was estimated at $75bn past year.
