  • Microsoft Surface Pro 5 To Launch In Microsoft's October Event To Compete Directly With Samsung Galaxy Book

Microsoft's next Surface Book may not be a hybrid 2-in-1 device like its predecessors if a new DigiTimes report is to be believed.

There are a couple of reasons given for this abrupt turnaround.

In terms of "under the hood" design the Galaxy Book is, of course, a Windows 10 tablet, which means it has features comparable with Surface Pro 4, though we don't yet know what version it will have out of the box.

Where the Microsoft deal gets good, though, is when you combine that free SSD with the 10 to 15 per cent off that Microsoft is offering on a couple of its different Surface and Surface Book convertible laptops.

While Microsoft accomplished the goal of making its mark as a premium PC vendor and won kudos for the Surface Book's innovative design, this didn't pay off with sales. Even its chassis is likely going to be composed of the same magnesium-aluminum alloy.

According to a report from DigiTimes this week, Microsoft has begun mass production of the Surface Book 2, which will be unveiled at the end of April.

This makes the Microsoft Surface Book 2 a regular notebook without being detachable or even sporting the fulcrum hinge. After all, if there is something that could be improved about the Surface Book 2, it would be its overall design and price.

Originally, the Surface Book comes with a detachable base that provides the laptop's other features like the keyboard.

If it is pitched as a traditional notebook product and features a friendlier price level, the sources expect related shipments to reach 1.2-1.5 million units in 2017, while the Surface Pro, should see a 20 percent growth to reach six million units in 2017. Surface is now one of Microsoft's biggest growth areas. It would expose Microsoft's confidence in itself for hardware as being paper thin. However, according to Taiwanese industry sources, Microsoft is going to shortly revamp the range, turn it into a simple clamshell design, and sell it cheaper. However, they were the first that broke the news of the Surface Studio, which is safe to assume that the news could actually be true. An iris scanner is also reported to be included on the front of the device, as Samsung included it in the failed Note 7. There's no specific carriers, but in Samsung fashion, we suspect most of the larger carriers will carry the Galaxy S8.

No evidence - surprise! - that Obama tapped Trump
Devin Nunes, head of the House of Representatives intelligence committee, made the remark on Fox News. Both Rogers and Comey said they are concerned about leaks of potentially classified information.
