  • Nisar approves inclusion of cricketers names in ECL involved in Spot-fixing

The charges relate to allegations of spot-fixing during the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL).

On March 16, these players were directed by FIA to appear before the agency on March 20 and 21 to record their statement.

Five players - Nasir Jamshed, Muhamamd Irfan, Shahzaib Hassan, Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif - are now under investigation by the anti-corruption unit of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Jamshed had been arrested in the United Kingdom as part of the PSL corruption case but was released on bail.

Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan has approved inclusion of the names of cricketers in Exit Control List (ECL) involved in Spot-fixing.

In a letter, FIA asked the ministry to prevent the tainted players from travelling overseas till the investigation is completed. While, Shahzaib Hasan and Sharjeel Khan will record their statements with FIA on Tuesday.

The PCB, however, distanced themselves from the FIA's inquiry and ESPNcricinfo understands the board had only written to the FIA requesting assistance in obtaining forensic information from mobile phones in connection to the PSL case.

"No complaint has been made by PCB to FIA to launch an investigation into players' conduct", Ahmed said. The FIA has no treaty with England that allows it to bring Jamshed back to Pakistan for investigation. Nasir said there should be zero tolerance policy against the five and any cricketer who is involved in spot-fixing should be severely punished.

According to the PCB rules, the player who receives spot-fixing offer has to immediately report to Anti-Corruption Unit of PCB.

Finally it is known that 'Sharjeel and Latif are contesting the charges against them and have been instructed by the PCB to attend a preliminary hearing in front of a three-member tribunal in Lahore on Friday'.

Sharjeel and Latif, who were suspended during the opening week of the PSL for suspected links with an global fixing syndicate, face a minimum five years' ban.

Last week, the minister said the FIA had started the probe on the request of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but the board now wanted to get the matter probed itself.
