  • Uber President Jeff Jones Quits Amid Company Controversies

In the six months Jones was at the company, Uber faced many public relations challenges including sexual harassment allegations, footage of Kalanick arguing with an Uber driver, and accusations of breaking a strike.

In a statement, Jones, who joined Uber just six months ago, was unequivocal about why's he's leaving the company. Jones, meanwhile, issued a "blistering" statement to Recode, its Kara Swisher and Johana Bhuiyan report, saying: "It is now clear ... that the beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber". Travis Kalanick recently announced the the company was looking for a new COO, which he says is the reason behind Jones' decision to leave the company. Kalanick hired Jones last fall, plucking him from Target where he served as CMO. (TGT), where he was chief marketing officer.

There are thousands of unbelievable people at the company, and I truly wish everyone well. In an interview with media, Jones said that he quitted because he was not compatible with the business. Rounding out the mass exodus includes senior director of engineering at Uber's Advanced Technologies Center in Pittsburgh Raffi Krikorian, who announced his resignation in March in an email to employees, stating that he wanted to help with his family move to California.

Uber wouldn't go into detail about the departure when we reached out, but did confirm it.

"I don't see this as a devastating hit to the company", said Miller, "but the next president and COO should be thought about strategically".

Brian McClendon, the vice president of maps and business platform, also departed from Uber this month.

It's been a rough couple of months for Uber, with the brief-but-viral #DeleteUber campaign, and the company's CEO being caught on camera berating one of his own drivers.

Sources told the news outlet that Jones determined the current conditions at Uber were "more problematic than he realized". Alphabet, Google's parent company, is claiming that executives at Otto, a self-driving truck startup Uber acquired, took Google's trade secrets with them. In a note to staff confirming his resignation, Kalanick thanked Jones for his service, but framed his departure as related to Uber's decision to hire a C.O.O. who would outrank him. Amit Singhal was also asked to leave Google this month, after failing to reveal a previous sexual harassment claim from his previous job at the company. The company has been in engaged in various controversies during the last few months.
