Mar.31 (ANI): 18-time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer booked his place in the semi-finals of the Miami Open after holding off a streaky Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in the men's singles clash here on Friday.

The two competitors had to be separated by a final-set tiebreaker, which Federer ultimately claimed following a Berdych double fault after just under two hours played.

Australian 12th seed Kyrgios required six match points against the 19-year-old German, prevailing 6-4 6-7 (9-11) 6-3 at Key Biscayne.

"I've had some tough losses here where I should have won". That's what I did today and I got over the line. "They stay with you so I'm happy today to have come through somehow", he said courtside.

But Berdych, who has struggled to close out the great players throughout his career, squandered the first match point on a forehand error before Federer evened the tie-breaker at 6-6 with a service victor.

The 35-year-old became the oldest Masters 1000 finalists and victor when he defeated his compatriot Stan Wawrinka at the Indian Wells Masters.

The Swiss star feels he was lucky to secure the win as he bids to add to his Australian Open and Indian Wells crowns this season.

Federer has won all seven of the tiebreaks he has faced during his current American campaign.

Kyrgios also hit 34 winners to 21, including a between-the-legs shot to win a point in the opening game of the second set.

Nick Kyrgios acknowledged that Roger Federer is playing some of the best tennis of his career ahead of their final-four clash at the Miami Open on Saturday.

"I enjoy winning breakers because those are the ones that are going to make you win a tournament or not sometimes", he said.

The 18-time Grand Slam victor was made to toil hard for his quarter-final win against his familiar foe, Tomas Berdych.

The 35-year-old had served for the match in the third set before being broken, then failed to capitalise on a match point in the next game.

Konta said: "Caroline's one of the best athletes on tour, so I know I am going to be running for a lot of balls".
