  • 7/11 customer throws violent fit after his credit card was declined

A nearby 7-Eleven patron, disgruntled when his payment card was declined when trying to purchase a pack of the hard-shelled chocolate sweets, attacked a clerk and knocked over cash registers, according to police reports.

Investigators in Santa Ana released surveillance video of the incident Wednesday. That's when police say the man swiped his credit card, but it was denied. Again, the cashier shakes his head.

When the card is declined, the man lunges towards the cashier, hitting him on the noggin, shoving the register off the counter and then pushing everything else he sees.

According to a Santa Ana police crime alert, the man is white, 30 to 35 years old, about 5-foot-10 in height, with a medium to heavy build.

He then grabs a handful of bananas and throws them at the other clerks head, knocking over another terminal before walking out - without the M&Ms.

Police estimate the damage caused to the store's registers and printers is around $700.

The suspect faces arrest for battery on a person and damage of property.

"It just came up that it was non-sufficient funds to buy a 75-cent bag of M&Ms", Bertagna said. Thus, police were unable to trace the transaction back to a specific individual.
