Trump supporters and counter-protesters fight on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley. on April 15, 2017.

Activists waved signs reading: "No!" Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., said there's nothing to prevent Trump from releasing his income taxes and "the simple truth is he's got a lot to hide".

An investigation into Saturday's violence is ongoing. "He's not working in the best interests of the American people".

"I feel we are going down the rabbit hole", he said. "Stop stonewalling, stop hiding", Waters said.

It was the third time the two sides were involved in violence since President Donald Trump took charge.

Mr Trump was the first major-party nominee in more than 40 years not to release his returns and he reneged on a campaign commitment to release them. Quite the opposite, in fact.

A reported 21 people were arrested at the Berkeley protest, and 11 more suffered injuries during the frightening brawl pitting what San Francisco's KRON TV News described as "hundreds" of protesters on both the anti-Trump and pro-Trump sides. Civic Center Park when several people started pushing each other. "There have also been numerous reports of pepper spray being used in the crowd", Berkeley police said in a statement. Eleven people were injured with at least six taken to a hospital for treatment, including one stabbing victim.

In addition to Damigo, the Berkeley protest reportedly attracted numerous prominent "alt-right" figures, including 41-year-old Kyle Chapman who is better known by his alias "Based Stickman", referring to his practice of carrying a wooden stick - such as those seen above - as a weapon at public protests. City officials are praising the police for how they handled the clash.

Lauren Southern, a conservative blogger, said at the rally of her opponents, "We must become like them: subversive". Way. and spread to city streets. City and campus police often sit on the sidelines when Republicans get roughed up.

The rally follows a March 4 confrontation planned by several of the same groups that left several people injured and led to arrests.

"Ten people were arrested for their roles in the events, and other arrests are being actively pursued".

Alternet contributor Ken Klippenstein thought it was hilarious when an anarchist incapacitated an elderly Trump supporter with pepper spray.

But Stephanie Edd, also of Berkeley, viewed the protest as an attempt "to co-opt the history of free speech". "It's important that we shut them down and let them know they can't pull this crap here". A woman told the Los Angeles Times that it was "more of a riot". She has forbidden campus police from working with immigration law enforcement and provided $5 million to aid the illegals UC is sheltering from ICE. In the 1960s, The University of California, Berkeley was considered the center for remonstrations.
