Google Releases New Google Earth, Still Can't Disprove Earth Is Flat

  • Google may soon launch its new edition of Google Earth

With the new Google Earth, users can also take guided, interactive tours led by scientists, documentarians and other experts in order to discover the wonders of the world.

New Earth was launched on Google's Chrome and Android software, with versions tailored for Apple (NasdaqGS: AAPL - news) devices and other internet browsing software promised soon.

When loading Google Earth (only available for Chrome and Android mobile for now) you'll see the old version of it.

Remember Google Earth? That free satellite service you used to look up your home?

Friends and family can also share in your digital adventure, with Google providing an online postcard that links them to the exact location you have visited. Another new feature in Earth is the Google search staple "I'm feeling lucky", which, as you can probably guess, can take you to an unexpected location at a whim.

The "I'm feeling lucky" feature has also been updated with 20,000 different "hidden gems".

Google Earth is one of the purest, most lovely gifts the company has ever given us. "Museums Around the World" will take you to a Street View of 28 museums in every corner of the globe, ranging from the Museo Reina Sofia in Madrid to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Whenever you search for a place, you'll see a Knowledge Card that highlights facts about that location.

After many years of stagnation, Google has finally made a decision to do something cool with Google Earth.

In New Zealand, Auckland is mapped in full 3D, as is Christchurch, thanks to a process called stereophotogrammetry which is created by photographing multiple angles of an area from the air, then stitching the imagery together. Instead of the flat satellite imagery we are used to, you can now explore nearly any location in 3D.

Now the new Google Earth has been made available on all desktops, Chrome; and Android as it rolls out this week. Google has partnered with such groups as the BBC and NASA to add video clips, photos and text narratives to three-dimensional representations of particular locations. Google will be adding more homes to this Voyager story in the coming months.
