Pence: US won't rest until N. Korea gives up nuclear weapons

North Korea regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States and it showed no let-up in its defiance after conducting a reportedly failed missile test on Sunday.

Despite President Trump's optimism that China will use its "extraordinary levers" to pressure North Korea, there have been questions about whether Beijing is serious about working with the U.S.to hinder dictator Kim Jong Un from developing the country's nuclear program.

During the recent military parade in Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang, North Korea rolled out new missiles on Chinese trucks.

"We'll be conducting more missile tests on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis", Han told the BBC in an interview, threatening "all-out war" if the USA took any action against it.

The Trump administration has said military action remains an option for dealing with North Korea.

In a sign of Beijing's hardening attitude, the Global Times, a state-run tabloid, said in an editorial on Monday that China could enforce "stricter measures" against North Korea, including a ban on oil exports, or join a US -led effort to block the North's access to worldwide financial markets.

Pence said on Monday the world had seen Trump's resolve in the past two weeks, with a USA missile attack on a Syrian airfield and the dropping of a powerful non-nuclear bomb on Islamic State fighters in Afghanistan.

North Korea could react to a potential U.S. strike by targeting South Korea or Japan, and officials in both countries have been ill at ease with the more bellicose language deployed by President Donald Trump's administration.

They also affirmed that Japan and the United States will continue to work together toward a resolution of the issue of North Korea's abductions of Japanese nationals in the 1970s and 1980s.

"As far as nuclear test is concerned, it was already announced to the public".

The United States was the most important participant, he said.

The comments dash the hopes of Japanese policymakers, who have said they want to avoid use of the economic dialogue as a forum to discuss a bilateral FTA that may put them under US pressure to open up highly-protected areas like agriculture.

"Friction is becoming a thing of the past and we are entering an era of cooperation", Taro Aso, Japan's deputy prime minister said.

TOKYO (AP) - The U.S. will not relent until it achieves its objective of ensuring the Korean Peninsula is free of nuclear weapons, Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday while visiting Japan.

Meanwhile, as the U.S. and Australia ratchet up pressure on China to use its leverage over North Korea, Beijing called on all sides to avoid any further "provocative actions". Yet North Korea has continued to paint the U.S.as the aggressor.

Trump on Monday said his message to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un was: "Got to behave".

"I'm not asking the President to telegraph his actions to the North Koreans", Cardin said.

Trump campaigned on an "America First" pledge, promising to overhaul trade agreements that he said hurt U.S.jobs.

In contrast to Obama, Trump has directly taken on North Korea, recently deploying aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson and an associated strike group of vessels to waters near North Korea.

"Now, the Chinese often express frustration with North Korea, and disappointment but the fact is that they have the overwhelming leverage over the North Korea regime". Abe has signaled support for the USA decision to launch a missile strike on a Syrian air base from where a chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians was allegedly launched earlier this month.
