  • Trump ordered Syrian air strike before dinner with Xi Jinping

The US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told an emergency session of the UN Security Council that the US had acted to ensure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad would never use chemical weapons again.

Tuesday's chemical attack killed at least 100 people and injured more than 500.

Both governments have defended their Damascus ally against Western allegations that it carried out a chemical weapons attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun on Tuesday, killing dozens of civilians.

While some questioned whether any chemical incident took place, others rejected the administration's stance that President Assad ordered the attack. "It was a slow and brutal death", Trump said.

The Pentagon is now searching for any evidence indicating that the Russian government knew about the chemical attack in advance.

"We are prepared to do more but we hope that will not be necessary", she said.

Russian Federation has reportedly suspended a communications hotline with Pentagon on Syria as the two countries clashed in United Nations over USA missile strike in the war-torn country.

Syria's government denied it carried out any chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun, and Russia's Defense Ministry said the toxic agents were released when a Syrian airstrike hit a rebel chemical weapons arsenal and munitions factory on the town's eastern outskirts.

Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has cancelled a scheduled visit to Moscow next week, his office announced Saturday, saying "developments in Syria have changed the situation fundamentally".

The US missile strikes against a Syrian airfield this week mark a stark shift in American strategy towards Damascus and shows the lack of any coherent foreign policy by the administration of President Donald Trump, according to worldwide relations experts. In turn, a USA defense official told Sputnik that this information was incorrect.

Saudi Arabia, one of the most vehement opponents of Assad, said the missile barrage was the right response to "the crimes of this regime to its people in light of the failure of the worldwide community to stop it".

The attack against a Syrian air base was the first US assault against the government of President Bashar Assad.

The Kremlin maintained only 23 of the 59 cruise missiles reached the base, leaving the runways intact.

Russian Federation flatly denies the allegations.

Russia, one of the main backers of the Assad regime alongside Iran, condemned the USA strike, denouncing a "flagrant violation of global law and an act of aggression". Johnson said Tillerson will be able to give a "clear and coordinated message to the Russians".

Pentagon investigating possible Russian involvement in chemical attack that prompted U.S. strike. Tillerson is due to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow next week.

He said on Twitter that the "conditions for negotiations in Moscow were even worse than (former Secretary of State John) Kerry's times". Russian Federation says United States has no proof chemical weapons were used Tuesday.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley warned Friday that the United States "is prepared to do more" in response to Syria's use of chemical weapons and delivered a sharp rebuke to Russian Federation for its support of the Syrian regime.
