  • LG Display virtually decided to supply Apple with plastic organic light emitting diodes for the iPhone 8 next year

It's said that Apple is testing a phone with a screen that takes up nearly all of the front of the device and has slightly curved glass on its front and back.

Apple will usher in the 10 anniversary of the iPhone with three new handsets this autumn.

Bloomberg reported the premium iPhone model in testing, now believed to be called the iPhone 8, features an OLED screen covering the entire front of the device. The display will run on organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology instead of the liquid-crystal display the company has employed in its iPhones since 2007.

On the design front, Apple is reportedly planning a glass face and glass backplate, and a steel spine between them.

Apple is apparently also testing embedding a fingerprint scanner within the display, but is running into technical issues which suggests it could be placed elsewhere in the final version. The device's branding will be based on Apple Watch special edition and hence it carries the moniker of "iPhone Edition".

Although the iPhone 8 will be closer to the iPhone 7 in terms of overall size, the size of its display will be slightly larger than that of the iPhone 7 Plus. The report goes on to claim that Apple is in the stages of finalizing the design specifications of the iPhone 8, with the design reportedly making it through the engineering validation testing stage.

The said leaked sketch also shows narrow earpiece at the top of the iPhone 8's front.

Also, the report suggests that the iPhone 8 will feature a flat edge-to-edge display as it will be more useful. The current iPhone 7 Plus features a horizontal dual-camera system on the back and a single front camera.

On the down side, in keeping with previous rumblings, Bloomberg notes that Apple fans may be waiting a little longer than usual for the flagship model, thanks to "supply constraints", perhaps "one or two months after the typical fall introduction".

Geskin says that the frame will be just 4mm thick, and his images also show plans for a vertical camera. This means that the iconic iPhone "home" button, which incorporates Touch ID technology, will be removed from the new iPhone.
