Furious sequel revs up record opening

The Fate of the Furious starred multiple Dodge and Fiat Chrysler vehicles including the new 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, which had a starring the role in the film. Vin's name was instantly thrown into the ring, and the pair did little to quash feud rumours when movie bosses reportedly had to separate them when they hit the promo trail for the latest film. The eighth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise made $100.2 million of that number domestically, but over 80% of its opening weekend came from worldwide markets, with $190 million from China alone, according to Variety.

However, the film opened to just USD100.2 million (RM441 million) in North America, which is a significant drop from the previous film, Furious 7 that collected USD147.2 million (RM649 million). The movie released along with Vidya Balan's highly anticiapted flick "Begum Jaan", and left it far behind in terms of collections.

For the studio, "Fast 8" stands on its own as being "an extraordinary result".

They add that ultimately Dwayne, who joined the franchise for Fast Five, acknowledged that it's original star Vin's movie. It faltered slightly at the U.S. box office, taking in roughly $100 million, which is about 30 percent less than what Furious 7 tallied for its opening weekend in 2015.

Was The Fate of the Furious the best Fast & Furious movie ever made?

The Force Awakens broke the record for biggest global weekend ever in December 2015, with $569.4 million (without China). Domestically, Fate made $98.8 million over the weekend. Apparently, he is amusing to even Jason Statham who broke character laughing during a scene of The Fate of the Furious where the two utilize their dynamite chemistry to exchange heated words.

Universal has already announced a ninth and tenth installment of the Furious franchise are planned for release in 2019 and 2021.
