Harden powers Rockets past Westbrook's Thunder

Westbrook wasn't too keen on complimenting the Rockets' defensive vigor in the aftermath of film study from the Game 1 carnage.

Oklahoma City Thunder's Semaj Christon (6) is fouled by Houston Rockets' Patrick Beverley, right, during the first half in Game 1 of an NBA basketball first-round playoff series, Sunday, April 16, 2017, in Houston.

Game 2 in the first-round series is Tuesday night in Boston.

"The turning point was not an exact moment, but offensive rebounds and second-chance points was what really killed us", Adams said, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. The Thunder's offensive rating on plays guarded by Beverley was a meager 66.7.

In the battle of James Harden (37/7/9) vs Russell Westbrook (22/11/7), Harden was clearly the victor. At the time maybe it was Wilson or some other s--'. "We have to get back to the drawing board and kind of look at how we can give a better effort in Game 2". "We've got to protect the 3-point line and make it (difficult for them)". We didn't shoot the ball well, but we got to the paint and we finished.

Thirteen of the 21 second-chance points in the first half came against OKC's big lineup. The most glaring statistic from Game 1 is the fact that Westbrook committed nine turnovers, mainly due to the subject of the next takeaway. But The Beard certainly didn't win this game on his own as he got some great help from his supporting cast.

"I never worry about what other guys are doing; it doesn't bother me".

On the season, the Rockets are averaging 115.3 points, 44.4 rebounds and 25.2 assists per game.

Houston started out the gates quickly, taking a 10-3 lead after Beverley's swipe of Westbrook, but the Thunder came back to tie and wound up taking a 6-point lead near the end of the first quarter. It wasn't until Harden started attacking the rim that he caught a rhythm, and his back-to-back driving layups cut the Thunder's lead to 29-27 entering the second quarter.

"Nah, it was a legal screen", Beverley said.

Most of the time the MVP award is given to the best player on the best team, but it should be given to the player who is having the best season.

All in all, it is hard to compare two players who played 50 years apart. "He made the right play, it was just up to me to step up and make a shot". James Harden led the way with 37 points, nine assist and seven rebounds in the game. Beverley sandwiched a floater and consecutive 3-pointers around three Harden free throws in the third quarter to extend the lead to 73-62. I think I missed my first six or seven shots from the perimeter, and I knew that wasn't going to go on for long, but I just continued to stay with it and continued to be aggressive. Lou Williams also managed to make just three of his 11 shot attempts.

Andre Roberson was a huge bright spot for OKC dropping 18 points. The 31-point margin of victory was the third largest in Houston's postseason history.
