  • Instagram Adds Offline Mode on Android

Instagram wants to make it easier for users in emerging markets to use the app, so during the Facebook Developer Conference (F8), the company announced it will be rolling out offline mode.

Screenshots from Android Police show the app providing messages saying you're offline and the actions will be "updated when you're connected".

Instagram engineer Hendri said that users will be able to leave comments, save media, and even unfollow people while offline with the newly introduced support, TechCrunch reports. The mode is primarily aimed at developing countries that often face low or limited data connectivity options.

Facebook said 80 percent of its users are outside the US and many lack access to a stable internet connection. This preloaded content is available on the main Instagram feed, explore tab, your profile and those profiles that have been recently looked at. As per the reports, 600 million users are outside of the United States so that company mainly targeted the users with limited connectivity. It's also good if you know you're heading somewhere without signal, the Underground for example, as you'll still be able to get your Instagram fix. Liking, commenting, saving, following, and unfollowing, all of these can be done while offline then scheduled to apply when you're back online.

Instagram's Snapchat-like Stories feature has also seen significant growth, reportedly even recording more daily active users (200 million) than Snapchat.

While Twitter, Facebook serves it's own objective, Instagram works on its own to a specific set of audience.
