  • HC Reserves Order on Plea to Direct Govt to Secure Jadhav's Release

According to a source, the workers led by Rita Gupta, said the showroom must close down the section. The postponement was announced soon after India summoned Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan to discuss the status of the case.

Swaraj dismissed Jadhav's trial as a farce and said Pakistan had ignored 13 separate requests in the past year to be permitted to offer him consular services.

Pakistan army spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor has already rejected any possibility of granting consular access to Jadhav, who was handed out the death penalty for alleged espionage and subversive activities.

He told media after his meeting on April 14 that he had asked for list of charges and authentic copy of verdict of military tribunal against Jadhav to launch appeal against his conviction.

The ministry also raised its demand for consular access to Jadhav during the meeting.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Wednesday refused to direct the government to approach the International Court of Justice for the release of Jadhav from jail in Pakistan, saying the government was taking necessary steps.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Anu Malhotra observed that at a time when the entire energies of the government are required to be devoted to addressing such a serious matter, this petition has sought to "divert our attention".

It said that any revelation regarding the efforts being made by the government may prejudice their success or frustrate the steps in this regard.

Pakistan has not made public copies of the chargesheet against Jadhav and the copy of the judgment sentencing him to death, said social activist Rahul Sharma who approached the court.

Jadhav was arrested in March a year ago in the restive Balochistan province and accused of being a Research and Analysis Wing (R and AW) agent.

Back in 2016, after the Uri attack that claimed the lives of 18 Indian army soldiers, MNS had served an ultimatum on all Pakistani artistes working in India to leave. Also, under the constitution, Pakistan's president could pardon Jadhav.

However, India denied Pakistan's contention and maintained that Jadhav was kidnapped by the Pakistan authorities.
