Pacers ready for game one in Cleveland

He was injured Monday against the Miami Heat. Cleveland will be tested but they will win this series in six games.

Miami Heat's Tyler Johnson (right) shoots the ball over Cleveland Cavaliers Iman Shumpert during the National Basketball Association match in Miami April 10, 2017. He was a big part of what we did in the playoffs (last year) because there was never any slippage. "But we have to take care of business".

The Cavs did end the season on one positive as forward Tristan Thompson returned after missing four games with a sprained right thumb.

"The most important thing is for us to give those guys a rest", said Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue, amid reports that James has a slight calf injury and Irving has been bothered by a knee issue.

Lue said he'd been planning for the Pacers for a couple days, when it became apparent the Cavs would likely finish second and IN would hold onto the No. 7 seed IN the East.

The Celtics will be No. 1 in the East if they beat Milwaukee, or if Cleveland loses to Toronto.

A second-round pick by Atlanta in 2o14, Tavares played in just 12 career games for the Hawks and spent most of this season with Toronto's D-League team.

Afterward, James was serious, but spirited as he talked with reporters and assessed his team's odds in the East, where the road to the Finals figures to be much tougher than past years. He scored nine points and grabbed two rebounds in the 98-83 loss to the Toronto Raptors, the Cavs' likely foe in the second round of the playoffs. But Miami rallied for its 29th win in the last 40 games.

Last year, the Cavaliers went 7-0 at home through the first three rounds of the playoffs, and 2-1 against the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. "Every time he sees us he plays well, so we got to do a good job of being really locked into him, knowing where he's at, at all times and try to take him out of the series".

LeBron James quickly moved past Cleveland's disjointed regular season, an uphill, 82-game slog of injuries, roster upheaval and drama. It's part of his usual playoff preparedness, since he hasn't appeared in a regular-season finale in a decade.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr opted to play safe with his key players, resting Curry, Durant and Draymond Green late while Klay Thompson sat out altogether. G Kay Felder (left lower leg) left the game in the third quarter.

Kyrie Irving added 23 points and Kevin Love had 17 for Cleveland, which has won 12 straight playoff games at home. He dropped 43 on the Cavs and finished a rebound and assist shy of a triple double in that same double-OT loss earlier this month.

Dwyane Wade helped Miami win three championships.
