  • NFL champs to visit Trump hours after ex-player's death

More than two dozen Patriots skipped the ceremony.

Several players this year alluded to United States politics as motivation for not attending: "I just don't feel welcome in that house", running back LeGarrette Blount reportedly told the Rich Eisen radio show.

"On his Instagram account (above), Brady posted his parents" wedding photo on their 48th anniversary.

A side-by-side comparison of the teams on both occasions showed a visibly smaller contingent to visit President Donald Trump than former President Barack Obama - a difference first noted by The New York Times.

Trump singled out a few players in the crowd behind him who made game-changing plays during the game.

Hernandez was serving a life sentence for murder but was recently acquitted on separate double murder charges.

The President used the Patriots' huge comeback in last winter's Super Bowl to take a swipe at "the pundits".

ESPN's longest-tenured employee, Seton Hall graduate Bob Ley, expressed his surprise that the Patriots were still visiting the White House after the Hernandez news.

Safety Devin McCourty, a team captain, told Time magazine: "Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House". That's what fans are speculating after Trump didn't even MENTION Tom's name in his speech to the team. Spicer then said, "All right, that was cool".

"Sean, need some help?"

"I think I got this", Spicer replied.

The president praised the "culture dedicated to winning" that coach Bill Belichick created in the Patriots organization. One of Trump's signature "Make America Great Again" hats was spotted in Brady's locker in 2015.

Just one day before the general election, Trump announced that Brady and Belichick supported his campaign - though Brady's wife Gisele Bundchen later denied that he was a supporter.

"It's distinct honor for us to celebrate what was unequivocally our sweetest championship with a very good friend and someone's who's mental toughness and strength I greatly admire", Kraft said. The NFL quarterback has a highly publicized friendship with Trump. Others include the owners of the Houston Texans, the Washington Redskins, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the LA Rams. Kraft gave the money via his Kraft Group LLC.

Brady continued to say the due to recent developments, he would not be able to visit the White House ceremony today.
