Prince William and Lady Gaga talk mental health over FaceTime

In a video watched by around 15,000 people live on Facebook, William and Lady Gaga chatted about how important speaking freely about mental health can be in helping to shatter the stigma around it. "Just having a conversation with a friend or family member can really make such a difference".

Prince William, 34, explained how important this dialogue was to himself, his wife, Duchess Catherine, and his brother, Prince Harry. The campaign focuses on removing the negative associations surrounding mental health and wellbeing. Lady Gaga, who a year ago spoke out about her struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder, places the call from her kitchen in California, and William answers at his desk in Kensington Palace.

The 32-year-old prince acknowledged that he spent almost 20 years "not thinking" about the death of his mother, Princess Diana, and that he only got help after two years of "total chaos". "You feel like something's wrong with you".

Lady Gaga believes there is "a lot of shame" attached to mental illness.

Hear ye, hear ye, all you normal people.

"For me, waking up every day and feeling sad and going on stage is something that's very hard to describe". You won't be judged.

Harry was asked whether he was in a good place as a result of dating USA actress Meghan Markle but he replied: "The point that we've learnt over this campaign is that if you're able and comfortable enough to be able to talk about certain issues, certain experiences, then you come out of it a far better person". "[Not talking about your mental health] is only going to lead to more problems down the line".

Towards the end of the call, both personalities also agreed to sit down and discuss what they can do together when Lady Gaga visits the U.K.in October.

The Royal told reporters Wednesday that he knows his mother would be proud of his work on the Heads Together campaign: "I think she would be proud of the campaign, proud of everybody involved, proud of us, but specifically proud of the United Kingdom for having this conversation". After all, she has been doing a number of public appearances and royal engagements as part of her mental health awareness campaign.
