Russia-US relations have 'worsened' under Donald Trump: Vladimir Putin

The Secretary of State described Russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 vote as a "serious issue" and "one that we know" about. Syria and Russian Federation have vehemently denied the regime carried out the attack.

"They plan to use some substances and accuse the Syrian government of using those chemicals".

There were only a handful of issues Tillerson and Lavrov said they broadly agreed on - that the Korean peninsula should be denuclearized, Syria should be "unified and stable" after the Islamic State is defeated, and that there should be more communication between U.S. and Russian diplomats and militaries. He said that there are two possible explanations for the attack: "The first version is that the regime's aircraft hit a chemical weapons arsenal belonging to the rebels and the second version is that the attack was fake".

A USA defense official says intelligence shows a Russian drone flew over the hospital in Idlib that was treating victims of the chemical attack, prior to the site being later bombed by an unknown aircraft. Lavrov told the press that there needs to be "an objective investigation".

"The global community has spoken. No", Trump told Fox Business News in an interview that aired Wednesday.

In a further indication of the stark differences, Russian Federation also slammed as "unacceptable" a proposed United Nations resolution put forward by the US, Britain and France on the alleged chemical attack, and said it would veto it in its current form at a vote expected later Wednesday.

Putin said relations had worsened.

He says relations between Moscow and Washington have deteriorated in the early months of Donald Trump's presidency.

Russian Federation and Iran are providing military support for Assad.

"The Trump administration came in with a set of problems and a level of disagreement that are more hard to just put aside in the way the Bush and Obama administrations had been able to do", said Stephen Sestanovich, a Council on Foreign Relations expert who was USA ambassador-at-large for the former Soviet Union from 1997 to 2001.

"Syria and Russian Federation, as a common enemy, provide a wonderful platform for consolidation".

"We are ready to throw our weight and resources behind diplomacy". Turkey has said tests showed sarin gas was used. "We are mindful of the seriousness of that particular interference in our elections and I'm sure that Russian Federation is mindful of it as well". "The exact same thing is happening now, and their partners are nodding approvingly".

Despite recent tensions, Mr Trump said it would be "fantastic" if the United States and Russian Federation could have better relations.

Both the countries agreed to work together on an investigation of the Syrian chemical attack last week.

In Paris, French President Francois Hollande said, "Russia bears a heavy responsibility" by systematically opposing multilateral action to protect its Syrian ally Assad.

Donald Trump authorized the launching of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the sovereign Syrian state.

Approximately 20 Syrian regime planes were destroyed in the USA strike, according to two U.S. senior military officials. "Figures sounded by the Pentagon of supposedly high efficiency of massive missile attack on Shayrat Air Force Base are made for the American public, not for professionals", according to a statement posted on the Defense Ministry's Facebook page.
