Sizzling Isco looks for chance to lead Madrid to glory

Madrid endured a nervous game too, which was eventually settled by Isco at the death.

Well, after seeing Isco's superb strike for Real, it appears that Zidane's decision to start the Spanish global has been fully vindicated.

Isco found a pocket of space on the edge of the area and drilled the ball inside Ivan Cuellar's near post. And, anybody who'd watched the match would have known that there was only one man who was going to win it. Isco went on a remarkable, jinking run from the halfway line that took him all the way to the area in and saw him dispossessed at the last minute.

And with time running out, Isco popped up with another fine finish to hand Real all three points.

The coach has the chance to make amends in the coming weeks, with Isco demonstrating he is willing and able to help Madrid fight for the league title and the Champions League.

Real Madrid suffered a set back in La Liga last week, conceding a late goal in the Madrid derby to draw 1-1 with Atletico Madrid.

Zidane said it was Isco's best match with Madrid, adding "you have to have character to do what he did". Head coach Zinedine Zidane will possibly rest some of his key players for the return leg of their European tie, but won't have that luxury in defence where Sergio Ramos and Nacho Fernandez are his only two fit central defenders.

Zinedine Zidane insisted Isco belongs at Real Madrid after the playmaker scored two wonderful goals, including a dramatic late victor, in the 3-2 LaLiga victory at Sporting Gijon.

"There are 24 players and it will always be unfair for those that don't play". Madrid welcomes Bayern on Tuesday after winning the first leg 2-1, while Barcelona must overturn a 3-0 first-leg defeat to Juventus on Wednesday. In an all-important fixture against relegation-facing Sporting Gijon, Isco proved why Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta described him as an "incredible player" and ensured his team's victory by 3-2, smashing two goals, including one in injury time.

"I don't know why it surprises people that I want to play more".

On-loan Athletic Bilbao midfielder Mikel Vesga inventively made Sporting's first and put them ahead again with his first LaLiga goal five minutes into the second half. Credit must be given where due to the Osasuna goalkeeper, Salvatore Sirigu, who is on loan from PSG, judged both the penalties (from Carrasco and Thomas Partey) correctly, and stopped Carrasco's hat-trick and further humiliation to team.
