Trumps celebrate Easter Egg Roll at White House

The US President, his First Lady Melania, together with their son, Barron, joined the guests as they rolled the colorful hard-boiled eggs across the lawn of the White House's backyard.

The White House's Easter Egg Roll, a big event in Washington DC every year, is an opportunity for the president to meet and greet the public.

The Easter Egg roll dates all the way back to 1878 when President Rutherford Hayes was in the White House.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer attended the egg roll with his family. That's down from the 35,000 people who attended a year ago. This year's 139th Easter Egg Roll is Trump's first Easter celebration after being hailed as the President of the United States.

This brought speculation over the event to an end, after the egg manufacturers Well Wood Turning had contacted the White House via Twitter in February to remind them of the event.

I don't know if we're gonna be successful", Trump said of the egg-rolling festivities, "but I know a lot of people down there are gonna be successful.

But the one guest that truly matters on Easter did make an appearance - the Easter Bunny, or, at least, a slightly creepier, slightly more shocked, and slightly visually impaired version of the Easter Bunny. He, Melania and Barron also joined kids at a table to colour cards to send to USA service members.

The children attending the event, some wearing red caps with Trump's campaign slogan "Make America Great Again" on them, took part in the race and egg hunt, decorated cookies, wrote thank-you letters to U.S. soldiers and participated in other fun activities.

It rained on and off all day, but the family says it's all worth it to be here at the people's house.

Trump's older sons, Don Jr. and Eric, and their wives, and daughter Tiffany also attended.

Over at the reading area, Mrs. Trump read "Party Animals", a story about celebrating differences written by television personality Kathie Lee Gifford.

A little rain didn't stop the White House from hosting the biggest event of the year.
