Volleyball Games At North Korea Nuke Test Site: Monitor

The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations had a message for North Korea on Wednesday: "We're not trying to pick a fight so don't try and give us one".

The 38 North monitoring group said satellite imagery captured Sunday showed personnel at the guard barracks and two other areas at the Punggye-ri test site playing the popular game. "They shouldn't try and play at this point".

North Korea put on a musical show to mark the birthday of founding father Kim Il Sung, which ended with a mock-up video of missiles engulfing the United States in flames, prompting cheers from the audience and smiles from current leader Kim Jong Un. Developing a hydrogen bomb is also a declared priority of North Korea, officially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea or DPRK.

But that test hasn't happened yet, though North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attempted to launch a missile Sunday that the Pentagon said blew up nearly immediately after launch.

Guterres said countries "on the frontline" of the crisis - China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Russia - must spare no effort to prevent a military buildup from Pyongyang.

Ayrault, who was in China last week and whose country has no diplomatic representation in North Korea, said it appeared that Beijing was increasingly anxious by the behaviour of its neighbour.

Fears of military confrontation mounted last week after US President Donald Trump warned against further North Korean provocation and North Korea's state media said the isolated country would respond to any sign of US aggression with nuclear strikes.

Besides that, in the past the call for dialogue was repeatedly included in the UN Security Council press statements concerning missile launches by Pyongyang and this did not arouse any doubts from Washington.

The paper, obtained by The Associated Press, says the North's latest actions "make clear that further global pressure is required for the DPRK to change its behaviour if there is to be any hope for meaningful denuclearization talks to resume".

"North Korea is the most unsafe and urgent threat to peace and security in the Asia-Pacific", Pence said.
