  • Weather official: Severe thunderstorms to hit Nebraska, Iowa

A few of the strongest storms will also bring the risk of brief, isolated tornadoes.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Lancaster County, effective through 6. It's not zero, but we don't expect a high-end severe weather risk this weekend. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.

The main threat has been high winds and hail, and the tornado threat was low in central Kansas. Surface based thunderstorm activity is not expected across the far northeastern sections of the state during the early Friday morning period.

First, showers and thunderstorms are likely for the morning hours. High temperatures will be in the middle 70s.

During Thursday night, the storms will drift farther east and may remain heavy and gusty from parts of southeastern OH, western NY, western Pennsylvania and northwestern West Virginia.

The cold front that ushered in Wednesday's storms left behind cooler air. Flash flooding and river flooding may result from this rainfall.

Friday's severe weather is heavily dependent on exactly where this warm front sets up.

A slow moving front will arrive in the area late this week with rain spread from the north to the south. Overnight lows should be in the low to mid-40s, and there is a chance of showers Friday night into Saturday.
