Blue Jackets beat Penguins 5-4 to avoid sweep

Jake Guentzel scored his third goal of the game at 13:10 of overtime, and the Pittsburgh Penguins took a commanding lead in their first-round Eastern Conference playoff series with a 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday night.

The Penguins' 22-year-old rookie buried three goals during Sunday's Game 3 against the Blue Jackets, including the game-winner in overtime. The teams traded goals during a third period where the Penguins were forced to take a lot of chances.

Pittsburgh Penguins' Marc-Andre Fleury, left, makes a save against Columbus Blue Jackets' Nick Foligno during the second period of Game 4 of an NHL first-round hockey playoff series Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Columbus, Ohio.

NEW YORK - Rick Nash and Jesper Fast scored, Henrik Lundqvist made 23 saves as the New York Rangers beat the Montreal Canadiens to even their first-round playoff series at two games apiece.

Rowney's dogged work along the boards, from the goal line to the blue line, denied the Blue Jackets an opportunity to set up in the Penguins' zone.

Columbus held a 14-11 edge in shots on goal in the first, bringing their total through three games in that category to 42-21.

I might just make it a rule to bet the Penguins any time they are underdogs during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That's all we're concerned about: To feel good about ourselves tonight, after this game. He'll enter Game 5 with a 2.64 goals-against-average and a.923 save percentage.

But remarkably, Werenski returned to the Columbus bench and briefly went back on the ice in the third period.

After the game, Werenski posted a photo of his face on social media, showing the gruesome swelling and discoloration caused by the puck when it rode up the shaft of rival Phil Kessel's stick and smacked him right under the eye.

It's no secret how much Zach Werenski means to the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, even after just one season. "We've got to get ourselves regrouped tomorrow and get ready for Thursday".

Bad breaks or not, the Penguins just didn't look like they were ready to play in the first six minutes and fell behind 3-1.

Schwartz had a power-play goal at 15:19 of the second period to put the Blues one win away from the second round.

After an unremarkable first 25 or so minutes for the Penguins - the Blue Jackets owned 38 of the first 54 shot attempts - the Penguins started to click. "But we got through it". Despite a last-minute injury forcing a change in starting goalie for the Pittsburgh Penguins, they could not rally any offense. "We can pout and hang our heads, or we can come to work (Tuesday) and get ready for another game".
