Harry Redknapp Appointed Birmingham Manager

Redknapp's contract is understood to be until the end of the season, with talks planned over a longer-term deal should they avoid relegation.

"I have got a bonus".

He joked: "I get fed up sitting around doing nothing".

Birmingham carry all the hallmarks of a club intent on self-destruction, making freaky managerial decisions that make no sense - something that Newcastle fans can definitely identify with during the Mike Ashley years. It is a good club. "I'm sure they'll will be up for Sunday's game and we need points". "It's not a massive one, but I said "if I don't keep you up, I don't want paying".

The 50-year-old was a controversial appointment by the club's Chinese owners after they sacked Gary Rowett, who had Birmingham well placed to challenge for a place in the play-offs, in December.

More recently, Redknapp was briefly in charge of Jordan for two World Cup qualifiers a year ago and was also working as an advisor to Derby County last season.

In 2012, he was heavily linked to the England job, having led Tottenham to the quarter-finals of the Champions League the previous year, but the FA plumped for Roy Hodgson.

Harry Redknapp believes Birmingham City "should be pushing to get back into the Premier League", after holding his first press conference at the club. I drove to London, had a meeting for 10 to 15 minutes, sat down and said, 'Yeah, I will do it, no problem.' I got home and my wife said: "'Are you mad?'" "It was a shock, he has taken it to the end of the season".

Redknapp's first steps in management came at Bournemouth, where he made more than 100 appearances as a player. They then play Huddersfield before ending the season against fellow strugglers Bristol City.
