Nintendo Switch is Nintendo's Fastest Selling Console in History

21 April, 2017, 19:10 | Author: Nadine Todd

Either way, it's an impressive first month of sales for Nintendo's new console; whether the long-time Japanese game console maker can sustain that momentum is another question altogether. "Accordingly, we think Nintendo will launch a lighter, dedicated handheld version of the Switch, possibly to be called the Switch Mini". The record only applies to the U.S. market, not globally, a spokesman for the Kyoto-based company said.

While Zelda may have outsold the Nintendo Switch, it's still one of the best-selling consoles to date. The game sold another 460,000 units for the Wii U home console. The Nintendo Switch sold 906,000 SKUs in North America, while the remaining stock of their 2 million SKU supply was split between Japan, Europe and Australia.

The Nintendo Switch is selling fast and breaking records at Nintendo. The news of sales number is revealing how well not only the Switch is doing but also Zelda.

Sure Nintendo, whatever you say. Previous pack-in games like Super Mario World on the SNES, Tetris on the Game Boy, and Wii Sports on the Wii by definition only sold to 100 percent of console owners during those systems' crucial launch periods. Nintendo notes "shipments have not yet been able to keep up with such high demand", which sounds great, but won't thrill anyone who's been waiting for weeks to find one (or worse, paid scalper prices). Where its long-term game stands has yet to be seen, as it's still working to make the system readily available to buyers interested in it.

But it's Nintendo with the momentum coming out of the first quarter of 2017, and it could maintain that success throughout the summer with launches like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, and Splatoon 2. After which you will then be able to customise them and take selfies with your amiibo pals.

It's also predicted Nintendo will have sold 25.7 million Switch units by the time this smaller console launches - a fairly ambitious goal.
