Almost 120,000 veterans who are enrolled at the Phoenix VA can now used the minute clinic at CVS Pharmacies. They cited the feedback of local veterans and the success of a smaller test run with CVS a year ago in Palo Alto, Calif. There are 24 "Minute Clinics" in the Phoenix area, where veterans can go and get immediate care for illnesses and injuries.

"As the VA becomes more transparent on the data that they're supplying to the public and veterans start learning about the questions they can ask, we can then engage with them to help them make the decisions they want to make", said VA Group Practice Manager, James Stainbrook.

This is a breaking story.

"Our number one priority is getting veterans' access to care when and where they need it", said Baligh Yehia, the VA's deputy undersecretary for health for community care.

The pilot is technically part of the VA's existing Choice program, which sends veterans to private health care providers at the government's expense.

Democrats have criticized Republican politicians for wanting to privatize veterans' care. John McCain of Arizona, who also serves as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The VA did not indicate whether it received requests from other VA medical centers or how quickly it might expand the program elsewhere. The bill being signed by Trump seeks to alleviate some of the problems by helping speed up VA payments and promote greater sharing of medical records.

The VA's new Access and Quality Tool will offer veterans more information on patient wait times and quality of care of VA facilities compared to local hospitals.

To facilitate care coordination, the partnership will share electronic health information in the same manner that proved successful in a similar program launched in 2016 with the Palo Alto VA Health Care System.

"Thanks to the leadership of CVS Health and the VA, Phoenix's almost 120,000 Veterans will now be served at 24 different area MinuteClinic locations for minor health care services".
