  • KATRINA: AMERICAN CRIME STORY: Dennis Quaid To Play George W. Bush [FX]

Quaid joins a heavy-hitting cast that includes Matthew Broderick playing Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Director Michael D. Brown (who was in charge of the government's response to the disaster).

American Crime Story executive producer Ryan Murphy has cast Dennis Quaid to play the former president in the Emmy-winning anthology drama series.

FX's Hurricane Katrina limited series has found its George W. Bush. The series debuted previous year with The People v. O.J. Simpson, which centered around the conviction of former National Football League star O.J. Simpson for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and family friend, Ron Goldman.

The team behind "American Crime Story" is already looking beyond it, however.

The second installment of Ryan Murphy's new anthology series will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Quaid has previously portrayed President Bill Clinton in "The Special Relationship".

Quaid will be the second actor to play George W. Bush after Josh Brolin donned the twang for Oliver Stone's W (not counting arguably the best portrayal of Dubya, Will Ferrell). Within six months of airing Katrina, FX will debut a third season of American Crime Story that centers around the 1997 murder of Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace.

American Crime Story was picked up for an additional three seasons following The People's premiere. Sarah Paulson is also reportedly in line for a role, although specifics have yet to be announced.
