According to the schedule released at the CW Upfront presentation, Black Lightning will be held for mid-season.

This new trailer that dropped today is the first real look at the next CW superhero drama, Black Lightning.

Keep your eyes peeled - as the trailer says, Black Lightning's back!

It's worth noting that all of The CW's Arrowverse shows film in Vancouver, while production on Black Lightning takes place in Atlanta. An Australian broadcaster has not yet been announced.

It looks like the show has plenty of material to mine on its own, with Jefferson Pierce returning to the world of superheroics after some time off, and his family seemingly getting in on the action.

Lifted from the pages of Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden's comic book series, Black Lightning tells the story of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), a once-iconic costumed crusader who made a decision to retire from the superhero scene soon after becoming a father.

Williams and Adams explain how being able to not only represent the African-American community in a superhero show but provide strong, positive examples for young people is a dream come true. There's a new hot superhero fighting crime on these streets.

Meanwhile CW execs also revealed that Black Lightning would not, for now at least, become a part of the universe spawned by The CW's wildly successful Arrow series. Pierce is hiding a secret: his ability to harness and control electricity, something which he used for years during his time as a vigilante. However, after too many nights with his life and his family on the line, he left his Super Hero days behind. Nearly a decade later, Pierces crime-fighting days are long behind himÂ…or so he thought.

Producer Greg Berlanti, Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil have been hard at work preparing the next slice of TV magic for The CW. The Black Lightning character was created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden.
