The first look poster of Shruti Haasan, Jayam Ravi and Arya starrer upcoming trilingual historic drama Sanghamitra was launched on Thursday at the 70th edition of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

The poster features Shruti Haasan in a fierce avatar wherein she is seen riding a horse with a sword in her hand.

Shruti Haasan, Music Director AR Rahman who work this project, Sundar C, Arya and Jayam Ravi will walk the red carpet on the opening night on Wednesday, May 17.

The $23-million-film, which has been produced by Sri Thenandal Films, will release in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi, simultaneously. The feature film will be split into two parts and is now in pre-production, with principal photography set to commence later this summer.

The makers have treated us to not just one, but two posters. With A R Rahman joining the crew, marking his Cannes debut, the celebration got a whole new dimension. It is expected to give tough competition to SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2. Sabu Cyril, the production designer of "Baahubali" franchise, is working on the gargantuan project.

"Sangamithra is a tale which goes back to 8th century AD, telling the trials and tribulations of the protagonist Sangamithra, whose beauty is unparalleled, and her journey to save her kingdom". To prepare for the role, Shruti, daughter of legendary actor Kamal Hassan has been training in sword fighting in London over the last few weeks.
